The Pearly King & Queen of Highgate

We are John and Peggy Scott and we are the Pearly King and Queen of Highgate. We were both born and bred in London, John was born in Westminster and Peggy in Finsbury.

We started raising money for charity in the mid 1970's through Chat's Palace in Hackney where we became part of the street carnival team, and John became one of the two original 'Plastic Pearlies' with Brian Walker. It's there that we met the late George Hitchins the then Pearly King of the City of London and his brother Fred who was the Pearly King of Westminster, we learned to understand what the pearly traditions and principles are, and we aim to uphold them just like George and Fred did. George became a good friend of ours, and even asked us to accompany him as Pearly Prides, which we declined at the time, but continued to do charity and voluntary work. We were then invited to be Pearly Prides by the current chairman of our society Pat Jolly (Pearly King of Crystal Palace),who knew us when we worked with George Hitchins. Having served our apprenticeship, we were then offered the titles of Pearly King and Queen of Highgate when the then current title holder vacated the title. We gladly accepted and we were subsequently elected to the titles. We also have our grand-daughter Elle (princess) and our Two great grandchildren Harris and Ruby (Prince and Princess who sometimes accompany us to events.
